BOXING GLOVES 10OZ 12OZ 14OZ CARBON FIBER EFFECT

If you’re doing any repetitive work on a punching bag, you’re going to want to purchase some top-of-the-line gloves to protect your hands. Whilst you can strike a punching bag bareknuckle, it’s going to tear the skin on your knuckles and cause bruises to your knuckles – see here for common injuries. Sometimes you may even damage the bones and joints in your hands. It takes to recover from an injury to hands and get back to hitting the bag.

Available in three different sizes—10oz,12oz, and 14oz—you’ll be able to find the perfect fit to suit your needs. There are two ways to find the size that you need: weight and hand circumference. Body type is an easy concept to grasp because the light the fighter, the lighter the glove.

Another helpful weight to determine your glove size is to go by hand circumference. Wrap a flexible sewing measuring tape or a cloth around your hand to determine the size of glove that you need. These first two sizing techniques yield roughly the same results, so feel free to use them interchangeably. Here are the sizes for both weight and circumference:

54-68kg         6.5” – 7.5”             10oz glove

68-84kg         7.5” – 8.5″             12oz glove

85kgs+           8.5” – 9.5               14oz glove.

Lastly, what you use the boxing gloves for will determine the weight of the glove you’ll want. If you’re hitting a heavy bag, a 12oz glove will suit you as the light glove will help with speed and agility. However, a 14oz glove may provide better protection in an actual match.

Being injury-free is the best way to progress in your training, and in order to avoid injury, and to prolong training sessions and avoid fatigue in your hands, properly wrap your hands and place them into a boxing glove.

Finding the perfect sparring glove for you needs

What are the most important things to know for a beginner purchasing their first pair of boxing gloves?

When purchasing your first pair of boxing gloves as a beginner, there are several important factors to consider to ensure you get the right gloves for your needs. Here are the most important things to know:

  1. Size and Weight:
    • Boxing gloves are typically measured in ounces (oz). Common sizes range from 8oz to 16oz.
    • Beginners often start with 12oz or 14oz gloves. These sizes provide a good balance of padding for protection and weight for technique development.
  2. Type of Gloves:
    • Bag Gloves: Designed specifically for hitting heavy bags. They have less padding and are lighter, making them unsuitable for sparring.
    • Training Gloves: Versatile and suitable for all types of training, including bag work and sparring. They offer good overall protection.
    • Sparring Gloves: Specifically designed for sparring. They have more padding, especially around the knuckles, to protect both the user and their sparring partner.
  3. Fit and Comfort:
    • Gloves should fit snugly but not too tightly. There should be enough room to comfortably wrap your hands.
    • Look for gloves with good wrist support to prevent injuries.
  4. Material:
    • Leather gloves are generally more durable and of higher quality but are also more expensive.
    • Synthetic materials (like vinyl) are more affordable and suitable for beginners, but they may not last as long as leather gloves.
  5. Closure System:
    • Velcro (Hook and Loop): Easy to put on and take off, ideal for beginners.
    • Lace-Up: Offers a more secure and snug fit but usually requires assistance to lace up.
  6. Ventilation:
    • Gloves with mesh panels or ventilation holes help reduce sweat and keep your hands cooler.
  7. Brand and Quality:
    • Reputable brands often offer better quality and more reliable protection. It’s worth investing in a good pair of gloves to avoid injury.
  8. Purpose of Use:
    • Determine the primary use of the gloves (e.g., fitness boxing, heavy bag training, or sparring) as this will influence the type and size of gloves you need.
  9. Hand Wraps:
    • Consider purchasing hand wraps to wear under the gloves for additional support and protection.

Remember, the right pair of boxing gloves can significantly enhance your training experience and help prevent injuries. It’s worth taking the time to find gloves that meet your specific needs as a beginner.
